Introducing ‘The Shepherds Bothy’
We’re excited to share news of our latest project: The Shepherds Bothy, a purpose-built, eco-friendly shepherd’s hut designed with accessibility, comfort, and inclusion at its heart.
Crafted locally by Well Shepherd Huts in the Ribble Valley, Lancashire, The Shepherds Bothy will soon nestle into a quiet corner of Rainbow’s End, offering gentle respite to those who need it most.
Created with wheelchair access and sensory-friendly features in mind, The Shepherds Bothy will primarily support the special families who visit Jigsaw Stables and Rainbow’s End—including children with special educational needs or disabilities, and their parents and carers. Whether it’s a peaceful overnight stay, a quiet moment to recharge, or a chance to experience the countryside in a new way, The hut will be a safe and welcoming space for rest and reconnection.
To help bring this vision to life, we’ve applied for funding through the Rural Development Programme for England (RDPE). This programme supports local businesses, communities, farmers, foresters, and land managers through grants ranging from £2,500 to £50,000, with all funding 40% match-funded and distributed via Local Action Groups (LAGs).
Once the hut is up and running, we hope to welcome not only our Jigsaw families but also couples, individuals, and members of the wider community—inviting everyone to experience the magic of the Mawdesley countryside like never before.
Stay tuned for updates as we take the next steps in making this dream a reality. We can’t wait to share this new chapter with you!
